Making Connections

When you read it is important to make connections. These connections help you comprehend the text. Comprehend means to understand and remember what you read.

You can make connections by making -
a text to self connection.
a text to text connection. Or a
a text to world connection.

Today when you are writing not only do I want you to pay attention to capitalization and punctuation, but I also want you to use detail words. Remember when we talked about our five senses? (sight, hearing, taste, touch, and smell) Use those senses to describe what is happening in your story.

Your story should be at least 6 to 8 sentences.
  • Imagine you are starring in a movie! Describe the type of movie it would be (action, adventure, fantasy, science fiction) and what it would be about.
Or
  • Imagine that you are listening to the radio one afternoon when the disc jockey announces that the next song is dedicated to you! Write a short mystery describing the clues that help you find out who dedicated the song to you.

Writing Prompts

Today is March 17, not the 31st. :-/ Sorry! It was early when I wrote today's first post.

Here are your writing prompts for the day. Choose one. Click "Comment" and write your story. Remember to use punctuation and capitalization when you write.

  • It's fun to pretend you are Irish on St. Patrick's Day, the day many people honor the patron saint of Ireland. Think about shamrocks, leprechauns, and pots of gold. Then put them all together with a little creative magic to write a fun holiday story.
Or
  • As spring approaches, many things in nature start to turn green once again. Imagine what you woke up one morning only to discover that YOU had turned green overnight! Write about your day and how you finally returned to your normal color.
